Forest seeds reward exploration, but they are optional.

Touch: use the movement, jump, spear and THROW controls.
Plant your feet to throw a chestnut; throws recharge and do not consume collectible seeds. Jump over the later guardians’ thorn shots, or interrupt their aim with a hit.
Read the timing of thorns, moving decks and swinging traps. Swim through the coastal channels; jump near a bridge ladder to climb.
In Stormglass, amber light warns before cloud-to-ground lightning strikes. Hit all three glass beacons with your spear, then reach the sanctuary.
